The Portuguese Government, through Employment and Professional Training Institute (IEFP – acronym in Portuguese) grants to companies established in the country a number of incentives for recruitment. One of these is “Estágios Emprego”, consisting of “internships with a duration of 12 months, extendable”, as shown on the IEFP website.

The objective of this measure is to “promote the professional integration of unemployed”, “support the transition between the qualifications system and the labor market” and “improvement of qualifications and conversion of the production structure” and “complement the skills of young people seeking a first or a new job”.

Among the benefits of this incentive is the support of the State in the scholarship of the internship by 80%, from 2014. “In the case of deficient and disability people, the sharing of the value of the scholarship of the internship is 90%,” reports IEFP. The measure also includes support with food benefit, transportation costs and labor accident insurance.
