Between January and July 2014, the Portuguese exports to Spain increased 5.1%, thanks to the efforts of the textile and clothing sector and the growth of the automotive sector, according to the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness. Similarly, exports from Spain to Portugal registered an increase of 8.7% over the same period.
The Portuguese market is the third destination of Spanish exports, with a share of 7.3%. In addition, Portugal is the eighth provider of Spain, with a market share of 3.8% of the total. Only during the month of July, business between the two countries recorded increases: Portuguese exports of 9.5% and Spanish of 11.9%.
In the Portuguese case, the products purchased by the Spanish were manufacturing (+17.3%), automotive (+13.8%), equipment goods (+9.1%), food (+8.6 %) and semi-processed products (+5.5%). Seen by Autonomous Community, the main customers were Galicia (€ 1101 ME), Catalonia (€ 998 ME), Madrid (€ 959 ME), Valencia (€ 594 ME) and Andalusia (€ 536 ME).
