Portugal continues to strengthen its international relations, seeking to establish business between the country and the world. On this occasion, President Aníbal Cavaco Silva was in China to encourage entrepreneurs to invest in this nation, as “an important gateway to Europe.”
“There is now a whole new generation of companies in Portugal with great entrepreneurial, innovative and technological capacity. Many are developing products and services for new segments in the global market”, said Cavaco Silva in Beijing. Also, the President of China, Xi Jinping, said “both agree that we are in a new historical starting point”.
Portugal and Latin America
The relationship between Lusitanian and Latin American countries is also growing stronger. Mexico, Peru and Dominican Republic are some of them which are seeking businesses, either in Portugal or in their respective lands.
The Mexican Foreign Minister, Jose Antonio Meade Kuribreña, reported that Mexico and Portugal have the opportunity to increase trade, investment and cooperation in ports, tourism, postal services, renewable energy, information technology and education.
In the same way, Dominican Republic wants to increase exports between the two countries, considering that they have grown 19% between 2009 and 2013. Among the main products exported to Peru from Portugal, we can find paper, cardboard, wood, drugs and gas.
Similarly, in the last 10 years Peru and Portugal have established cooperative ties, so Peruvian seek more Portuguese investment in the country to boost innovation and industrial development. “In recent years, the growth of the Peruvian economy has been above 6%”, said Deputy Foreign Minister of the country, Fernando Rojas.
