Data released by the National Statistical Institute of Portugal about foreign subsidiaries reveal that 75.3% of them are controlled by companies based in the EU, mainly in Spain (26.2%), France (14.6%), Germany (8.4%) and England (8.3%).

The study, which includes data from 2008 to 2012, indicates that subsidiaries employ, on average, 66.5 workers. As for the generation of wealth, German companies lead with a gross value added of 17.7%.
