As data released by the National Statistics Institute (INE) of Portugal, the country received 15.3 million guests in 2013, 4.6% more than in 2012, representing 43.5 million of accommodations, 5.3% more than in the previous year. This increase was due to foreigners and non-house physicians.
These results for Portugal are in line with the worldwide tendency. According to the World Tourism Organization, tourist arrivals to international markets on five continents totaled 1086,8 million, an increment of 5.0% over 2012.
